buy, stop, finish, etc.
We use PPC with verbs that describe
longer actions, like learn, study, rain, try,
play, read, wait, etc.
We use PPC to emphasise the action we’ve been doing

With work and live, both forms are
possible
o My sister’s worked/been working here for ages
o She’s lived/been living in London since 2011

We often use for, since, just, yet, already, still, ever, never recently, lately, etc. with both forms.

We also use de PPS with this week/month, etc. and this morning/evening, etc. if it still that
time of day.
How long? How many?

To make questions in PPC when you want to talk about how long something has been
happening, use: How long...?

To make questions in PPS when you want to talk how many things have been completed,
use: How many...?

For state verbs we must use the PPS with How long? How long have you had your car?
How long have you been having you car?
